I believe in diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in all my lesson plans, outreach, and advocacy efforts in my classroom, my school, and in the community at large. I will advocate for and participate in policies that enable equitable access to education, scientific careers, and scientific benefits. I will work to support increasingly equitable scientific spaces. I desire to amplify the work and voices of underrepresented scientists and members of underrepresented communities.
My students are not "empty vessels" to be filled with knowledge. Instead each student brings with them their own rich and varied experiences, knowledge base, and positionally. I am there to learn from them, as they are from each other. Knowledge is iterative, collaborative, and ever changing. I will listen to and validate the experiences of others.
Science does not belong to any political party. I believe that scientific evidence is an essential part of good policy making. As a scientist, teacher, and citizen I strive to conduct my work with transparency, integrity, and an open mind.
